What are Resources in Starfield?

There are three types of resources in Starfield:

  1. Inorganic resources
  2. Organic resources
  3. Manufactured components

Inorganic resources

Examples include iron, aluminum, etc.

Types: Solid, Liquid, Gas

How to obtain:

  • Scanning and drilling individual deposits on planets
  • Setting up outpost extractors on larger deposits
  • Destroying asteroids in space for basic materials
  • Purchasing from vendors

Organic resources

Examples include adhesive, cosmetic, etc.

Types: Flora and Fauna

How to obtain:

  • Harvesting plants on planets
  • Killing alien creatures on planets
  • Setting up outpost farms for plants and animals
  • Purchasing from vendors

Organic resources looted from aliens may have additional terms like Carapace or Vital Fluids, but this does not seem to affect gameplay.

Planets with abundant Flora and Fauna are more likely to have a lot of organic resources. Schrodinger III is a good example of this.

Manufactured components

Examples include adaptive frames, zero wire, etc.

How to obtain:

  • Collecting random world loot
  • Crafting at industrial workbenches (unlocked via Special Projects perk)
  • Purchasing from vendors

Storing resources

If you have a lot of resources, you can store them in your ship's cargo hold. If your ship's cargo hold is full and you don't want to sell your sources there are a few options.

  1. Freestar Collective Mission: Completing the Freestar Collective Missions rewards players with a ship that has almost 3k cargo capacity. Players can expand this by investing points into starship design and a skill called payloads, which increases cargo capacity by up to 50%.
  2. Constellation Lodge Storage: There is an infinite storage container in the Constellation Lodge, which is in the basement of the Constellation Lodge. You can store as many resources as you want here. Speak to Noel, who will give you a bedroom in the lodge. There is a safe with unlimited storage in it.
  3. Player.modav carryweight: Use the Player.modav carryweight command in the console to increase your carry limit.
